Our clients, recently returned from living in Hong Kong, brought a large detached house in Hertford in need of a whole house refurbishment and extension.
As well as remaining sympathetic to the period style of the property they wanted the new extended kitchen, dining and family room to be contemporary in style whilst also subtly reminding them of their far eastern travels.
In response we created a number of top-lit linked roof forms, recalling lightweight pagoda structures, that define and link to a series of outdoor spaces of varying character. Charred wood cladding, another far eastern tradition, also reinforces the design concept.
