Clients & projects: Inner Light

The existing house didn’t make the most of its relationship with its rear garden and was only accessed through a slightly cramped series of enclosed spaces. To resolve, we extended to the side and to the rear to create an open plan but zoned kitchen/utility, dining, family room with a great connection to the West facing garden.

The existing house didn’t make the most of its relationship with its rear garden and was only accessed through a slightly cramped series of enclosed spaces. To resolve, we extended to the side and to the rear to create an open plan but zoned kitchen/utility, dining, family room with a great connection to the West facing garden.

A large frameless glass roof light brings natural daylight into the heart of the floor plan as well as retaining daylight to the rear of the existing living areas. We designed and organised local joiners to craft an oak peninsula unit which separates the kitchen from the dining area and provides crockery storage and display. We also designed additional contemporary built-in furniture to the new family room and specified the colours and finishes to the rest of the house to complement its period style.
